The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from 15 to 18 July 2027 at Goodwood House in West Sussex. The 1.16 mile hillclimb has been the centre of the event since the first festival in 1993, and the running order is the same on all four days: car parks open at 06:30, gates at 07:00, and the hill starts at 08:30. That early start is the whole transport problem. An event that begins at half past eight in rural West Sussex is not one you set off for at eight.

Goodwood publishes one instruction about arriving by car that matters more than any advice we could add: do not follow your sat nav. Arrival is through a planned road network that routes traffic to the correct car park, and a driver who trusts the postcode instead of the signage ends up in the wrong queue on a single track Sussex lane with no way to turn round. A chauffeur who has worked the Festival before knows the approach and follows the marshals. The second thing is the finish. The event runs to 19:00 and several thousand cars leave grass car parks at once. A driver who stayed with you is already in position. A car you try to summon at seven in the evening is joining the same queue as everyone else.
Planning Your Arrival
Goodwood designates Gate 1 as the drop off and pick up area and asks all taxis to follow event signage to it, so that is where we set you down unless you tell us otherwise. Tell us which day you are attending and what time you want to be at the gate, and work backwards from the 08:30 start rather than the 19:00 finish. If you would rather not have a car waiting all day, Goodwood runs a bus between Chichester station and the event from 07:00 to 20:00, and there is a charge for it. Chichester is roughly an hour and a half from London by train.
