Manchester Airport terminals: Terminal 1 has closed

Manchester Airport now operates two passenger terminals, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 has closed and no longer handles passengers, which is the single most important thing to know if you have not flown from Manchester recently. Manchester’s own terminal finder offers only Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, and the airport marked the end of Terminal 1 operations after 64 years. Terminal 3 is Ryanair. Terminal 2, expanded under the airport’s transformation programme, handles the large majority of airlines, including British Airways, easyJet, Emirates, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Virgin Atlantic, Aer Lingus, Air Canada and Turkish Airlines. If your last Manchester departure was from Terminal 1, check your boarding pass rather than your memory, because the building is still there and a satnav may still route you to it.

The terminals at Manchester Airport

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 handles the large majority of Manchester’s airlines following its expansion under the airport’s transformation programme. Manchester lists British Airways, easyJet, Emirates, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Virgin Atlantic, Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Turkish Airlines and around fifty other carriers here.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is Ryanair. Manchester’s terminal finder lists Ryanair as the only airline assigned to Terminal 3.

Moving between terminals

Manchester now has two terminals rather than three, so the transfer question is simpler than it was. We do not publish a walking time or a shuttle frequency between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 here, because Manchester does not state one on the pages we can read, and guessing at a connection time is the kind of detail that costs somebody a flight. Check with the airport if you need to move between the two.

What the terminal means when a car is meeting you

The closure of Terminal 1 is the practical risk at Manchester, and it is a risk for drivers rather than for passengers inside the airport. A returning traveller who last flew in 2024 may give us Terminal 1 out of habit, and a satnav may still find it. We plan pickups around Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, your chauffeur confirms the meeting point by text before you land, and if the terminal on your booking looks wrong we will query it rather than drive to it.
